Today’s the day, Google will finally reveal the Official name for their next ‘sweet’ version of Android.
As it was reported just a few days ago, Google will officially unveil Android 8.0 O’s mascot and the name during the Solar Eclipse.
Google will hold a dedicated event for both the Solar Eclipse and to release the next major version of Android in New York City at 14:40 ET, 19:40 GMT, 20:40 CET,
Luckily for us, the event will be live streamed, and you can watch here on our website.
Here’s what we know about the name so far, this is why we believe the next version of Android will be called ‘Oreo’:
On August 21st, a solar eclipse will sweep across the entire United States for the first time since 1918. Android is helping you experience this historic natural phenomenon so you can learn more about the eclipse and count down to the big day—when you’ll meet the next release of Android and all of its super (sweet) new powers, revealed via livestream from New York City at 2:40PM ET.
Google has partnered up with companies before – remember KitKat? Unfortunately they did not want or perhaps the deal didn’t go through with Android N (Nutella), so everyone assumed that’s why it was named after ‘Nougat’.
Naming the next Android version ‘Oreo’ also makes sense:
It also makes sense to tie the unveiling of the name to the solar eclipse in this case, because Oreos kind of make you think of such an event – with the black disc covering its white creamy filling in much the same way as the moon covers the sun during an eclipse. – GSMArena
There is also a proof for the name.
Google has recently posted to their Google + profile a video, the filename of the video was actually called “GoogleOreo_Teaser”. Want further proof? Check the image below. (The post has since been taken down)
Sure, this might be a Google employee trying to play us all, but what if it’s actually true and just want to get people ‘hyped’? Well, either way, it makes us more curious to find out!
