Xiaomi had a lot of success with its first generation of Mi Band wearable devices, not to mention the massive market share the company was able to achieve with the second generation.

Yesterday, Xiaomi has unveiled the Mi Band 3 – the third generation of smart, fitness tracker alongside the new Xiaomi Mi 8 devices.

The Mi Band 3 will keep all of its core features – including: the heart rate sensor, step counting, sleep tracking – but it will now also allow you to answer calls and even make payments.

Design wise, it’s very similar looking including the straps and the overall design. It has a 0.78″ OLED display with a resolution of 128 x 80 (it’s good enough for what it is).

It has Bluetooth 4.2 and a 110 mAh battery – which is a 50% increase over its predecessor, the Mi Band 2. As mentioned above, it also has NFC, so you can even make payments with it when you are on the go – though we’re not quite sure how this will work alongside Android Pay or Apple Pay.

The 110 mAh battery should provide 20 days of battery life, which is to be believed – since all of the previous Mi Bands were on par with Xiaomi’s promises. If all of this isn’t enough, you can also change the straps to your likings as its interchangeable. It’s also water resistant up to 50 metres – so taking it to the shower should not cause any issues in theory – though as always, we advise against it – to be on the safe side.

The Xiaomi Mi Band 3 will be available in 3 colours: Red, Black and Dark Blue and it’ll become available on 5 June. The price is CNY 169 (or about $26/€22) or CNY 199 ($31/€26) for the NFC version.
