Yesterday, we have update our renders of the “Google Pixel 3 XL and Google Pixel 3 compared against 2018 flagships”, however, we did not expect that much anticipation – and so we have asked you, which of the phones would you like to see the new Pixel generation compared to – and so here are the comparisons.
Now, let’s talk about the recently shared leaks of the Pixel 3 generation.
Recently, XDADevelopers have shared some live images of the Pixel 3 XL – which certainly confirms the notch, but we are still unsure about the glass back itself – which could also confirm a Wireless Charging rear panel on it own – possibly.
A new leak however suggests that the top rear panel would receive a ‘glossy’ glass finish while the bottom bit would receive a ‘matte’ finish, making it fully compatible to house a Wireless Charging unit inside – which so far also seems to be confirmed by some system code found by XDA.
So, all that said – nothing so far is confirmed, and all of this is just a leak, however it’s worth saying that it all seems very possible – since the Wireless charging unit and the notch is all but very popular nowadays.
But all that said, let’s jump to the part you’ve been asking for – the comparisons against other devices made in 2018 and before.
There are a lot of images, so we had to break up the article to a few pages – so the performance of our website and the image sizes wouldn’t downgrade your experience – Enjoy.
All of these comparisons were recommended by you and we were also surprised by a few comparisons – thank you for the feedback and the contribution! Would you like to see a Part 3? Either comment here on our website or on our Reddit post!

Comparisons against Google’s own devices
First, I think we should start out with the Bezel comparison on the Pixel 3 XL compared to the 2 XL.
Keep in mind that this is our justification of the actual size difference – this however may be inaccurate and incorrect at the time of showing, writing this.
It does not seem like a huge deal, but the Pixel 3 XL’s notch does indeed seem a lot ‘deeper’ compared to other flagships – even the iPhone X, as you may have seen from our yesterday’s post.
Pixel 3 XL and the Pixel 1 XL comparison was one of the most up-voted comments on Reddit.
We estimate that the Pixel 3 XL will be slightly larger compared to the first series of Pixel XL device and a tad-bit wider.
Not to mention the smaller Pixel 3 compared against the first generation of the Pixel devices.
Size wise, the Pixel 3 in our opinion will be slightly taller and less wider compared to the original Pixel series.
Here are all of the generation of the XL devices. Can you see the shrinking bezels and the ‘trendy’ notch, chin coming to life? We’re not happy about the chin, but hey – front facing stereo speakers is all we want! We are not a fan of the ‘notch-trend’, and we don’t really see a reason to talk too much bad things about it – it’s unavoidable in 2018.
And of course, we can’t miss out the smaller non-XL devices compared against each other.
Again, bezels are shrinking while the screen real estate is growing – rapidly – while the size stays very similar, at least when the Pixel 3 compared to the Pixel 2.
We wanted to make some comparisons side by side to help you justify the size, chin and of course, the display size and the notch against a wide variety of combinations.
Comparisons against Samsung devices and the iPhone 8
We were asked to make a comparison between the Pixel 3, S9 and the iPhone 8 devices. As you can tell, the iPhone 8 sports a massive top/bottom bezel while the Galaxy S9 seems to have the smallest one amongst these other 2 phones.
When the two Plus/XL sizes are compared, we can clearly tell that Samsung’s approach seems perhaps a bit nicer – in our opinion – and of course, notch-free. However, the Pixel seems to receive a larger screen real-estate while also keeping its front facing stereo speakers (which are also found on the Galaxy device, but only the earpiece act as a speaker while the bottom one can be covered easily, unlike on the Pixel).
The two smaller devices also get compared to each other. Screen wise, they look very similar and nearly identical – though the Pixel 3 seems to be slightly taller with a tad larger top/bottom bezels.
