Sony will announce the new Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact on Monday during MWC 2018, however it is also expected to launch another “surprise” device alongside these two new flagship devices.

The Sony Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact has leaked by the famous Evan Blass on Twitter – showing off the new Sony Xperia flagships in all of their glory.

The device you see above is the Sony Xperia XZ2. The device(s) (including the Compact version) will be one of the first devices to have the Snapdragon 845 chipset on-board, along with the new ‘modern’ 5.7″ 18:9 aspect ratio display. The display will apparently have a 1080p+ resolution – according to @evleaks.

The XZ2 will reportedly get a lot of new upgrades, including the brand new design for the whole device. I have to say – I am personally fan of the new front design (even with those top-large bezels), but not the back of the device unfortunately. It resembles too much of the HTC U11 for me, in a slightly worse design version – that’s just my opinion on this.

The fingerprint sensor has also moved from the side of the device to the rear center, which likely promises a working fingerprint sensor in the US – just like the new XA2 mid-rangers do. On the side, there will still be the a dedicated camera shutter button at its usual location, a simple power button and the volume rocker will be moved up.

The XZ2 Compact will have a slightly different design – front wise, it will look nearly identical, though there are no words on the screen size just yet (likely between 5″-5.5″) – what’s confirmed is that it will definitely have the new 18:9 aspect ratio with front facing stereo speakers.

The camera on the back will be a single shooter set at f/1.8 aperture and it’s going to have an upgraded sensor to record at 960fps at 1080p. Hopefully the device will be able to record for more than a few seconds this time around.

Other features for both of the new Xperia flagships include the much loved Stereo Speakers, NFC, *likely Bluetooth 5.0, Quick Charge 4.0, USB-C. Unfortunately Sony will be ditching the 3.5mm headphone jack this time around. There are no words on any IP certificates, but we figure it will have the standard Sony IP68 water and dust resistance certification.

Both the XZ2 and XZ2 Compact are getting battery upgrades – the XZ2 is getting a 3180 mAh battery while the Compact is getting 2870 mAh.

There are words on the XZ2 getting a wireless charging capability, while the Compact version will not. We cannot yet confirm the situation for the XZ2 Compact, but as you can see, the XZ2 will be getting the missing feature back. (Sony ditched the Wireless Charging feature after the Z3 and never put it back in its flagships – until now).

The colour options for devices are said to be: Black, Silver, Green and Pink – though both devices will get a different saturation and hue.

The Sony Xperia XZ2 is rumored to cost £706, €799 and $987, while the XZ2 Compact is expected to start at £529, €599 and $740.
